Common bare metal questions

What is a bare metal server?

A bare metal server is dedicated, single-tenant hardware with no hypervisor between your workload and the machine. It suits performance-sensitive and licensing-sensitive workloads.

What is the difference between bare metal and a virtual machine?

Bare metal is one physical server dedicated to you. A virtual machine is a share of a server, elastic and quick to scale. Bare metal gives maximum performance and isolation. VMs give flexibility.

Does PacketFabric include the network?

Yes. Bare metal comes with private connectivity to clouds and data centers on the PacketFabric backbone.

Bare metal versus virtual machines: which fits my workload?

Heavy, steady workloads tend to need the power of bare metal. Workloads that are flexible and need to quickly scale up or down should use virtual machines.
